Every week, someone walks into our office with a Facebook screenshot promising a "100% free scholarship in Cyprus." Here is the honest version: real Cyprus scholarships for Bangladeshi students do exist in 2027 — some worth 40–50% of tuition, a handful worth 100% — but they work very differently from what the ads suggest. Most are automatic tuition discounts decided from your academic results, not separate competitions. This guide shows you exactly what each major university publishes, what you would actually pay in taka, and the traps that catch applicants from Bangladesh.
Cyprus scholarships for Bangladeshi students in 2027 are mostly university merit awards: UCLan Cyprus publishes 30–40% programme scholarships and up to 50% first-year merit awards, University of Nicosia gives 10–50% based on grades, and European University Cyprus has offered five 100% postgraduate scholarships in its 2026 Presidency scheme. Your admission application usually doubles as your scholarship application.
How do Cyprus scholarships for Bangladeshi students actually work?
In most cases, your admission application is also your scholarship application — the university reads your transcripts and offers a percentage discount on tuition with the admission letter. There is usually no separate essay competition or interview for undergraduate merit awards. Cyprus's private universities price their degrees at roughly €7,000–€10,000 per year before discounts, then compete for strong international students by cutting that figure by 25–50%.
Two things follow from this. First, your SSC/HSC (or O/A Level) results largely decide your discount before you ever leave Bangladesh — so present them properly. Second, awards are typically allocated on a rolling basis: applying early for the October 2027 intake means competing for a fuller pot than applying in the final weeks. The same logic applies to the smaller February intake.
What scholarships does University of Nicosia (UNIC) offer?
UNIC, the island's largest private university, publishes a transparent merit system. New international students are considered for a first-year scholarship based on their High School Leaving Certificate grades, judged against the standards of the country that issued it — HSC results from Bangladesh included. From the second year, the discount follows your university GPA on a published scale.
| UNIC award | How much | Who qualifies | Bangladeshi applicant? |
|---|---|---|---|
| First-year merit | % varies by school results | New students, judged on HSC/A Levels | Yes — automatic consideration |
| Continuing merit (GPA 4.00) | 50% | Current students, per semester | Yes — earn it on campus |
| Continuing merit (GPA 3.75–3.99) | 20% | Current students | Yes |
| Continuing merit (GPA 3.50–3.74) | 10% | Current students | Yes |
| Athletic scholarship | Up to 40% | University sports team members | Case by case |
| Postgraduate / distance / medicine | — | Excluded from UNIC scholarships | No — plan full fees |
Note that last row carefully: UNIC states its scholarships do not apply to postgraduate programmes, distance learning, or the Medical School. If you are heading to Cyprus for a Master's, UNIC's discounts are not your route — look at EUC and UCLan Cyprus instead.
How generous is UCLan Cyprus for 2027 intakes?
UCLan Cyprus in Larnaka publishes the most detailed scholarship page of the five universities we track, updated for the 2026/27 academic year. The baseline: undergraduate tuition is €9,000 per year after a standard €950 bursary, and most taught Master's degrees cost €9,500 for the entire programme.
On top of that sit three published layers. Programme-specific scholarships cut fees on selected degrees — 40% off BSc Mathematics & Statistics (€5,970/year) and 30% off several others including Computer Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Web Design and Media Production (€6,965/year). Academic merit scholarships give top school-leavers 50% or 40% off the first year — the published cut-offs are extremely strict (95%+ equivalents), and Bangladesh is not on the published country list, so your grades are assessed by the admissions office directly. And postgraduate applicants can earn up to 30% off any Master's after an interview with the course leader.
UCLan Cyprus graduates receive two degrees — one from UCLan Cyprus and one from the University of Lancashire in the UK. A 30% scholarship here effectively buys a UK-pattern degree at roughly ৳9.8 lakh per year in an EU country. That value-for-money equation is what we most often end up discussing with families comparing Cyprus against the UK itself.
UCLan's programme scholarships continue into later years only if you maintain a 70% yearly average with at least 60% in every module. A scholarship is a contract with conditions — read your offer letter's small print before you celebrate, and budget for full fees as your worst case.
Can Bangladeshi students get a 100% free scholarship in Cyprus?
Occasionally — but treat full scholarships as a bonus, never as your plan. The clearest current example: European University Cyprus announced ten postgraduate scholarships under its Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026 scheme — five covering 100% of tuition and five covering 50%, for new students starting Fall 2026 in its MBA and selected online MSc programmes, valid for the full programme. Ten seats, worldwide competition. UCLan Cyprus ran a parallel Presidency scheme with 40–50% awards on law and business degrees.
What about government scholarships? Cyprus state schemes are country-targeted, negotiated government-to-government. Frederick University's site, for example, documents a Republic of Cyprus scheme reserved for Lebanese students. There is no equivalent published scheme for Bangladesh — so an agent promising you a "Cyprus government full scholarship" should set off alarm bells. Frederick itself is generally reported to offer partial merit awards up to about 25%, though we could not confirm current figures on its own pages.
How do you apply for Cyprus scholarships from Bangladesh?
The good news: no separate scholarship bureaucracy. The application sequence for an October 2027 start looks like this.
Documents to have ready before you apply:
- Passport valid well beyond your course start date
- Certified SSC/HSC or O/A Level certificates and transcripts (with English translations where needed)
- IELTS/TOEFL result, or ask whether the university's own English test is accepted
- A short motivation letter — not always required, but it strengthens borderline scholarship cases
- Bank solvency papers via an AD-bank student file — scholarships reduce tuition, not the funds you must still show
- Reference letter(s) from your college or employer for postgraduate applicants
What scholarship traps should Bangladeshi students avoid?
1) "Up to 50%" arithmetic: percentages are usually calculated on the original fee, not the discounted one — a "30% scholarship" at UCLan means €6,965, not 30% off €9,000. Always ask for the final euro figure in writing. 2) North Cyprus confusion: universities in the Turkish-occupied north advertise huge "scholarships," but that territory is not the EU-member Republic of Cyprus and the visa route is entirely different — every university named in this guide is in the Republic. 3) Renewal conditions: a first-year award that quietly lapses in year two if your average slips. 4) Agent-invented "government scholarships" for Bangladesh that do not exist in any official scheme.
What we see at Eduvisa is a pattern: families chase the biggest headline percentage, while the students who end up financially comfortable are the ones who picked a guaranteed programme scholarship, confirmed the renewal conditions, and budgeted honestly for the rest. A predictable 30% beats a mythical 100% every time.
How much will you still pay after a scholarship?
BSc at UCLan Cyprus with a 30% programme scholarship: tuition €6,965/year ≈ ৳9.8 lakh (instead of €9,950 ≈ ৳14 lakh — saving about ৳4.2 lakh every year). Add living costs of roughly €600–€1,000/month, the €5,000 refundable-per-policy deposit, €210 visa and alien-registration fees, and about €265 for the post-arrival Pink Slip package. A full four-year plan should be built on these numbers, not on the scholarship line alone.
