Lithuania Student Visa From Bangladesh 2027: Full Guide

Every year a handful of Bangladeshi students walk into our office holding a printed checklist for a "Lithuania student visa" — and almost every one of those checklists is wrong. Not slightly wrong. Structurally wrong, because the document they are preparing for no longer exists for full-time students.

Do Bangladeshi students need a visa or a residence permit for Lithuania?

A residence permit. This is the single biggest misunderstanding about the Lithuania student visa from Bangladesh route, and it costs people months. SMK College of Applied Sciences, a licensed Lithuanian higher education institution, states it plainly on its own admissions pages: the National Visa D is no longer valid for foreign students in Lithuania, and a study-based Temporary Residence Permit — typically issued for two years and renewable — is what a degree student applies for.

The official evidence lines up. The Migration Department's own fee schedule carries a separate, cheaper line item specifically for "a foreigner who has been admitted to study in a Lithuanian research and study institution." And the Migration Department's page for the service centre that handles South Asia lists, under services provided, exactly one thing: temporary residence permits.

So when a competitor's Facebook post promises to process your "Lithuania D visa", ask which document they actually mean. If your programme is a full-time bachelor's or master's degree, the answer should be TRP.

Where do Bangladeshi students actually apply — is there a Lithuania visa centre in Bangladesh?

No. And this is where the Bangladesh-specific detail matters more than any general guide can tell you.

Lithuania does have a presence in Bangladesh: an Honorary Consul, Mishal Ali, at 822/3 Begum Rokeya Sharani, Mirpur, Dhaka-1216, listed on the Embassy of Lithuania to India's website (page updated 13 May 2026). But an honorary consulate is not a visa-issuing mission. Bangladesh does not appear anywhere on the Migration Department's published list of countries where a temporary residence permit or national visa service centre operates.

India does. The designated centre is VFS Global, Schengen Visa Application Centre, 4th Floor, 27 K. G. Marg, New Delhi 110001 (a Mumbai branch also operates, at Urmi Axis Building, Mahalaxmi West). Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00–16:00, with a lunch break from 13:30 to 14:30. The Migration Department publishes the external service provider's own customer service fee for that centre: EUR 110, on top of the state fee.

How much money do you need to show for a Lithuania student TRP?

Far less than most Bangladeshi students assume — and the number circulating online is usually double the real one.

The living-funds requirement is pegged to 0.5 of Lithuania's minimum monthly salary, not the full minimum wage. Lithuania's gross minimum monthly wage rose to EUR 1,153 from 1 January 2026 (up from EUR 1,038, an increase of about 11%). Half of that is roughly EUR 577 per month, and the amount has to be shown for the whole duration of the permit requested, or at least one year — which works out at approximately EUR 6,918 for a year.

Getting the funds document right the first time is what keeps a Lithuania TRP application on schedule.

Verify before you act. The EUR 1,153 minimum wage and the 0.5 multiplier come from a Lithuanian higher education institution's published TRP guidance and from widely reported coverage of the 2026 wage decision. Wage thresholds change every January. Confirm the exact euro figure inside your own MIGRIS application before you freeze a bank statement — MIGRIS shows the required amount for your case.

What does a Lithuania student TRP actually cost in official fees?

Less than you would guess, and the student discount is real. The Migration Department charges half the standard rate for study-based applications. Here is the published schedule (Migration Department state fee pages, last updated 28 May 2025; New Delhi service fee page updated 16 January 2026).

ChargeAmountApplies to a Bangladeshi student?
TRP — standard general procedureEUR 160No — not the student rate
TRP — foreigner admitted to study at a Lithuanian institutionEUR 80Yes — this is your rate
TRP — urgent procedure (standard)EUR 320Rarely used by students
Personalisation of a new TRP cardEUR 45Yes
VFS New Delhi service provider feeEUR 110Yes
National Visa (D) examination feeEUR 140Not for full-time degree students
TRP after completing studies in LithuaniaNo state fee (once)Yes — the job-search permit

Read that last row again. A graduate of a Lithuanian institution is exempt from the state fee for a temporary residence permit under the general procedure, once, at their own choosing. Your stay-back permit does not cost you a state fee. That is written into the Migration Department's published exemptions, and it is the kind of detail that changes how a family plans the whole budget.

What documents does the Migration Department want from a Bangladeshi applicant?

The core set is short, but two items behave differently for Bangladesh than for most countries.

  1. Passport valid for at least two years, with both the given-name and surname fields filled in. A blank surname field blocks the university from issuing your code — a real and common problem on Bangladeshi passports.
  2. Mediation code from your Lithuanian institution, submitted by them through MIGRIS. It is normally issued a few working days after final acceptance, and institutions commonly require proof of your tuition payment before releasing it.
  3. Police clearance / certificate of non-conviction covering every country you have lived in for more than six months in the past two years.
  4. Health insurance valid across Lithuania and the Schengen area for the whole permit period or at least one year, with cover of at least EUR 10,000 as stated in institutional guidance.
  5. Proof of living funds and return funds, as set out above.
  6. Confirmation of place of residence — many institutions advise declaring your address in Lithuania after arrival rather than before.

How long does the Lithuania TRP process take, and is there an interview?

Plan on five to six months from acceptance to travel, and yes — there is an interview, which most guides simply never mention.

  1. Start collecting documents as soon as you have conditional acceptance (about 5–6 months before the semester starts).
  2. Receive final acceptance and your mediation code from the institution.
  3. File the application electronically in MIGRIS with digital copies attached.
  4. Book the service-centre appointment through MIGRIS and attend in person within the permitted window to hand over originals and give biometrics.
  5. Attend an online interview with the Migration Department about your programme, your institution and your reasons for choosing Lithuania.
  6. Wait for the decision — the general procedure runs to about two months.

That interview deserves respect. It is not a formality. Officers ask why this institution, why this programme, how the subjects connect to what you studied before, and how you will pay. Vague answers read as a weak study purpose, and a weak study purpose is one of the most common reasons a European study application fails anywhere.

Can you work while studying in Lithuania in 2027?

Yes, but the rules changed in 2026 and a lot of published advice has not caught up.

On 14 May 2026 the Seimas adopted amendments to the Law on the Legal Status of Foreigners, with most provisions in force from 22 May 2026. Under the amendments, international students in the first and second year of a bachelor's programme may work no more than 20 hours per week, except during the institution's summer holiday period and during practical training specified in the study programme. Doctoral students are not subject to the working-time limit. Permits issued before 21 May 2026 are carved out of the new cap.

Conflicting official information — flagged deliberately. The national Study in Lithuania portal still states that non-EU students may work up to 40 hours per week once they hold a residence permit. That page does not appear to reflect the 22 May 2026 amendments, which we sourced from a Baltic law firm's analysis published 4 June 2026. Where two sources conflict, assume the stricter one and confirm your own position with the Migration Department or your institution's international office before signing an employment contract.

Can you stay and work in Lithuania after graduating?

Yes — up to fifteen months in total, and the permit itself is free of state fee.

The national study portal sets out two stacked options: during your final year you can apply to extend your residence permit by three additional months from the day studies finish, and after graduating you can apply for a temporary residence permit valid for twelve months for job search or self-employment. Combined, that is a fifteen-month runway — competitive with far more expensive destinations.

Two 2026 changes are worth knowing before you plan a career around this. First, the exemption that lets graduates of Lithuanian institutions skip the standard qualification or salary conditions for a work-based permit now runs for five years after completing studies, reduced from ten. Second, from 1 November 2026, someone who entered Lithuania on a Schengen visa can no longer apply inside Lithuania for a work-based permit as a non-highly qualified specialist. Neither change hurts a student who follows the study route properly — both punish improvised shortcuts.

What goes wrong most often, and how do you avoid it?

  • Preparing for a "D visa" when your programme requires a study-based TRP.
  • Booking a Delhi trip before MIGRIS shows the application at the service-provider stage.
  • Showing the full minimum wage in the bank instead of the correct multiplier — or, worse, showing too little because a blog quoted an old figure.
  • Insurance bought for the wrong period, so it expires before the permit does.
  • A passport with an empty surname field, discovered only when the institution cannot issue the mediation code.
  • Treating the Migration Department interview as a formality.
  • Working more than 20 hours a week in year one because a website said 40.

What we see at Eduvisa is that Lithuania rarely fails on money. It fails on sequence. The documents are individually manageable; it is the order — acceptance, then mediation code, then MIGRIS, then status, then appointment, then interview — that decides whether a student makes the September intake or waits for the next one. That sequencing, against your own passport, your own bank position and your own academic history, is exactly the part no blog post can do for you.
