On 19 December 2025 the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh posted a short notice on its own government website. It announced the Chinese Government Scholarship, named the deadline — 10 January 2026 — and told applicants to apply online at the China Scholarship Council's portal. Three weeks. That is the window Bangladeshi students get each year, and it opens while most of them are still thinking about the following September. The scholarship itself is one of the most generous on offer anywhere: tuition, a dorm room, medical insurance, a monthly allowance and a return flight.
The Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS, often called the CSC scholarship) covers full tuition, on-campus accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance, a monthly living allowance of roughly CNY 2,500–3,500 depending on level, and an international round-trip air ticket. Bangladeshi applicants apply online through the China Scholarship Council portal. The Dhaka embassy's last published deadline was 10 January 2026.
What does the Chinese Government Scholarship actually cover?
The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh lists five things in its own announcement: "Full tuition fees, On-campus accommodation, Comprehensive medical insurance, Monthly living allowance (approximately CNY 2,500–3,500, depending on program level), International round-trip airfare."
That last item is worth dwelling on, because it is unusual. Most fully funded scholarships available to Bangladeshi students leave airfare to the family. China's package names a round-trip ticket. For a student from a district town whose family is already stretching for the passport, the medical and the police clearance, one less flight to fund changes the arithmetic materially.
The embassy notice covers bachelor's, master's and PhD programmes, and also a one-year Chinese language programme — which is the route people overlook. A language year is not a consolation prize; for a student who wants a Chinese-taught degree later, it is the cheapest possible way to find out whether China suits them.
How do Bangladeshi students apply, and through which channel?
The Dhaka announcement is specific on this point: "All applicants must complete their application online through the official China Scholarship Council website: www.campuschina.org." It is headed as the CGS / CSC Type A route — the channel administered through the diplomatic mission rather than by a university directly.
Two things the announcement does not give, and which trip people up every year:
The China Scholarship Council portal asks for an agency number before it will accept an application, and that number determines which channel your file travels down. The Bangladesh announcement we read does not print one. Ask the embassy's education section for the correct agency number for the current cycle before you start filling the form — an application submitted under the wrong agency is not a fixable mistake, it is a lost year.
The second gap is documentary. The notice says applicants should "submit all required documents within the stipulated time" but does not list the documents. The portal does, per programme, and the list varies by level. Build the file from the portal's own checklist for your level, not from an agency's generic list.
Unconfirmed: the per-level breakdown of the monthly allowance. The CNY 2,500–3,500 range is what the Dhaka embassy publishes. A three-tier split of CNY 2,500 for undergraduates, 3,000 for master's and 3,500 for doctoral students circulates widely online, and we could not re-verify it on a current official Chinese government page on 27 September 2026. Treat the range as the figure and confirm your own level in the portal.
When is the deadline for the 2027-28 intake?
It has not been published. The most recent call we can see on the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh's website was posted on 19 December 2025 with a 10 January 2026 deadline. There is no 2027-28 Bangladesh announcement yet, which is entirely normal — the pattern is a notice in December for a deadline in the first half of January.
| Stage | Timing | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Embassy notice published | 19 December 2025 | Published |
| Application deadline | 10 January 2026 | Published |
| Opening date of the window | Not stated in the notice | No |
| Results | Not stated in the notice | No |
| 2027-28 dates | Not announced | No |
Which means the practical advice writes itself: if you are aiming at China for 2027-28, your file needs to be complete by the end of November 2026. Not started — complete. A December notice with a January deadline does not leave room to chase a transcript.

How much is the monthly allowance worth in taka?
At the Wise mid-market rate of 1 CNY = 18.34 BDT on 27 September 2026, the published range converts as follows. The taka figures are our arithmetic on China's yuan amounts, not amounts China quotes:
| Item | Yuan | Taka (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Allowance, lower end | CNY 2,500 / month | ৳45,900 |
| Allowance, upper end | CNY 3,500 / month | ৳64,200 |
| Allowance over 12 months, lower | CNY 30,000 | ৳5,50,000 |
| Tuition, dorm, insurance, flight | Covered | ৳0 |
Because accommodation is on campus and already paid for, that allowance is close to disposable. This is the structural reason a CGS award in China can leave a student better off month to month than a partly funded place in Western Europe, where a bigger stipend disappears into rent.
Can you use this scholarship for MBBS in China?
China is one of the biggest destinations for Bangladeshi medical students, so this deserves a straight answer: whatever funding you have, there is a Bangladeshi gate you must pass through before you start an MBBS abroad, and a second one when you come home.
The Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council requires an Eligibility Certificate before a student begins an MBBS abroad. Its published requirement list includes your Bangladesh MBBS/BDS Admission Test admit card and result sheet. Students who never sat that test, or who cannot produce the result sheet, discover the problem years later. And a graduate returning to practise in Bangladesh must pass the BMDC Registration Qualifying Examination. A scholarship does not change either requirement.
We say this plainly because the cost of not knowing it is a degree you cannot register. If medicine in China is your plan, settle the BMDC side in Bangladesh first and the scholarship second.
Does a Bangladeshi apostille work for China now?
Yes — and this is a genuinely recent change that a lot of guides have not caught up with. The 1961 Hague Apostille Convention entered into force for the People's Republic of China on 7 November 2023. Bangladesh's own accession took effect on 30 March 2025, and China is not among the twelve contracting parties that objected to it.
So for Bangladeshi academic documents headed to a Chinese university or to the CSC portal, a single apostille from the competent Bangladeshi authority is the recognised route, in place of the older chain that ended at the Chinese Embassy's consular counter. One step, one fee, and weeks saved in the exact December window when you cannot afford to lose any.
Entry-into-force dates were read on the HCCH Apostille status table on 27 September 2026; the objection list was read on the HCCH notifications register on 25 September 2026. Universities sometimes ask for a specific document format regardless, so confirm with your admitting institution before paying.
What should be in the file before you open the form?
- Valid passport with adequate remaining validity
- Apostilled highest-degree certificate and full transcripts
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form, completed and stamped
- Language evidence appropriate to the programme (HSK or English)
- Two academic recommendation letters
- Study plan or research proposal, written for a named department
- Non-criminal record certificate
- Any programme-specific documents the portal lists for your level
What does the scholarship not pay for?
Passport and police clearance in Bangladesh. The apostille fees. The student visa itself — winning a scholarship is an academic decision, and the X1 or X2 visa is a separate immigration process with its own documents and appointment. The residence permit you must obtain after arrival in China. Domestic travel inside China. And the first few weeks before your allowance begins arriving.
The CSC portal does not charge an application fee. Individual universities may charge their own application fee, and that is a separate matter — but nobody in Bangladesh should be charging you for access to the scholarship application. Paying a consultant to assess your file and check your documents is a service; paying for the form is not.
What we see at Eduvisa
The most common reason a Bangladeshi student misses a China scholarship is not a weak transcript. It is a December scramble: the notice appears, the family starts collecting documents, the apostille takes longer than anyone expected, and the 10 January cut-off passes with an incomplete file. Students who win are the ones who treated November as the deadline. That is the conversation we would rather have with a student in September than in the first week of January.
