Nepal's Department of Immigration issues a free (gratis) tourist visa on arrival for up to 30 days to SAARC citizens, including Bangladeshis, for the first visit in a visa year (read 14 Oct 2026). A second visit in the same year, or a longer stay, is charged at the normal on-arrival rates: US$30 (15 days), US$50 (30 days), US$125 (90 days). You need a passport valid for at least six months, an arrival card and the online tourist visa form or airport kiosk receipt.

How much does a budget trip cost?
| Cost item | Approximate range (per person) |
|---|---|
| Return flight Dhaka–Kathmandu | Tk 25,000–45,000; cheaper outside Oct–Nov and holidays |
| Budget hotel / guesthouse (Thamel, Lakeside Pokhara) | US$12–35 per night |
| Food (local restaurants, dal bhat, momo) | US$8–15 per day |
| Local transport (tourist bus Kathmandu–Pokhara, taxis) | US$10–25 per intercity trip; city taxis extra |
| Entry fees (Durbar Squares, Sarangkot, etc.) | A few dollars each; SAARC rates are often lower (reported by travel sites) |
Cost figures are Eduvisa's rough planning ranges per person (October 2026), based on typical published fares and prices seen online — not quotes, and not checked against any official tariff. Taka amounts move with the exchange rate.
When is the best time to go?
- October–November: post-monsoon, clear skies, peak season — book early
- March–May: spring, rhododendrons in bloom, warmer, some haze
- June–September: monsoon — cheapest, but cloudy and landslide-prone on roads
- December–February: cold but clear; good for Kathmandu and Pokhara, hard for high treks
What should you see on a budget?
- Kathmandu Valley: Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, Pashupatinath and the three Durbar Squares
- Pokhara: Phewa Lake, sunrise at Sarangkot, paragliding
- Nagarkot: Himalayan sunrise an hour from Kathmandu
- Chitwan: jungle safari in the lowlands
- Short treks: Poon Hill or Australian Camp for first-timers
Sample 5-day budget itinerary
- Day 1: Fly Dhaka–Kathmandu, visa on arrival, check in to Thamel, evening walk
- Day 2: Swayambhunath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath
- Day 3: Tourist bus to Pokhara (6–8 hrs), Lakeside evening
- Day 4: Sarangkot sunrise, boating on Phewa, World Peace Pagoda
- Day 5: Return to Kathmandu (bus or short flight) and fly home
Carry some US dollars in clean notes for fees. Buy a local SIM at the airport with your passport. Keep your free-visa slip with your passport — you may be asked for it on exit. Book the October Dashain/Tihar period and Eid holidays early, as Dhaka–Kathmandu fares rise sharply.
What does a 5-day Nepal trip cost in Taka?
Direct answer: a careful traveller can do 5 days in Kathmandu and Pokhara for roughly Tk 42,000–83,000 per person including the return flight. The flight is the biggest single cost; on the ground, Nepal is one of the cheapest trips available from Dhaka.
| Item (5 days, per person) | Rough estimate (Tk) |
|---|---|
| Return flight Dhaka–Kathmandu | 25,000–45,000 |
| Visa (first visit in the visa year) | 0 |
| Guesthouse, 4 nights (shared room) | 6,000–17,000 |
| Food, 5 days | 5,000–9,000 |
| Tourist bus Kathmandu–Pokhara and back, local taxis | 3,500–7,000 |
| Entry fees, SIM card, small extras | 2,500–5,000 |
| Total | ≈ 42,000–83,000 |
Rough estimates only, per person, prepared October 2026 at a planning rate of about Tk 122 per US$. Fares and prices move with season and exchange rate; they are not quotes.
Which flights go from Dhaka to Kathmandu?
Direct flights from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) to Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) take a little over an hour. Biman Bangladesh Airlines, US-Bangla Airlines and Himalaya Airlines are among the carriers that have operated the route. Fares are lowest outside October–November and outside the Eid, Durga Puja and year-end holidays.
- Book 4–8 weeks ahead for peak October–November departures.
- Ask for the right-hand window seat flying into Kathmandu on a clear day — the Himalaya is often visible.
- Check the baggage allowance: some fares include only cabin baggage plus a small checked bag.
- Keep a printed copy of your return ticket; Bangladeshi immigration at DAC can ask for it on departure.
How does the free visa on arrival actually work at Kathmandu?
You fill in the online arrival form (or use the airport kiosk), queue at the free-visa (gratis) counter for SAARC nationals, and get the stamp — no fee, no prior approval. The Department of Immigration lists the free 30-day facility for SAARC citizens' first visit in a visa year; the paid rates apply only to a repeat visit in the same year or a longer stay.
- Passport valid at least six months beyond arrival.
- One recent passport-size photo is useful if the kiosk is not working.
- Hotel address for the arrival card.
- The barcode receipt from the online form, printed or on your phone.
Can you extend your stay?
Yes. The Department of Immigration handles tourist visa extensions in Kathmandu and Pokhara at the fees on its official page, so a 30-day free stay can be extended for a fee if you plan a longer trek.
What does a detailed budget itinerary look like?
- Day 1 — Arrive Kathmandu: visa on arrival, prepaid taxi to Thamel, dal bhat dinner. Budget about Tk 2,500 on the ground.
- Day 2 — Heritage day: walk or short taxi to Swayambhunath in the morning, Kathmandu Durbar Square at midday, Boudhanath at sunset. Entry fees are the main cost.
- Day 3 — To Pokhara: tourist bus leaves early from Kantipath; arrive Lakeside by late afternoon. Book the bus a day ahead through your guesthouse.
- Day 4 — Pokhara: pre-dawn ride to Sarangkot for sunrise over the Annapurnas, boating on Phewa, walk up to the World Peace Pagoda.
- Day 5 — Return: bus back to Kathmandu (or a short domestic flight if your budget allows) and an evening flight to Dhaka; otherwise add a night and fly the next morning.
Eat where locals eat — a plate of dal bhat with refills is filling and cheap. Share taxis and agree the fare before getting in. Walk between Thamel sights. Avoid buying trekking gear new; Thamel shops rent jackets and poles by the day.
How should you carry money from Bangladesh?
Short answer: endorse your dollars on your passport before you fly, carry a mix of clean US$ notes and an international card, and change only what you need.
- Dollar endorsement: buy foreign currency from a bank or licensed money changer and have it endorsed against your passport under your annual travel quota, which Bangladesh Bank sets. Keep the encashment certificate with your passport.
- International card: a dual-currency debit or credit card from a Bangladeshi bank is the safest way to pay hotels and withdraw Nepali rupees. Ask your bank to enable it for international use and note its per-transaction and daily limits.
- Clean notes: new, untorn US$ notes (series 2013 or later where possible) get the best rate and are accepted everywhere; old or marked notes are often refused.
- Exchange smartly: change a small amount at the airport for transport, then use city money changers or ATMs. Avoid changing Taka abroad — it is rarely accepted outside Bangladesh.
- Keep records: card slips and the endorsement receipt make your travel history clean when you later apply for UK, Schengen or study visas.
Why get one-to-one help instead of doing it yourself?
Because one person who knows the rules checks your whole plan before you pay for anything. Most trips that go wrong do so for small reasons: a passport that expires too soon, a booking that does not match the visa form, a fee paid on an unofficial site, or a return date that clashes with an exam or job. Doing it alone is possible — the official links on this page are all you need — but a second pair of experienced eyes makes the process clearer, quicker and far less likely to go wrong.
What does Eduvisa's one-to-one service include?
- A dedicated adviser who handles your file from first conversation to return, so you never repeat your story.
- A document checklist made for your case — passport, photos, bank papers, bookings, letters — reviewed before anything is submitted.
- Budget and itinerary planning with realistic costs from Dhaka, timed around holidays and fare peaks.
- Application support on official portals only, with every fee and receipt recorded.
- Travel-history planning so this trip strengthens future UK, Schengen or study visa applications.
What is the Eduvisa membership card?
Every student or tourist client receives an Eduvisa membership card with a personal client ID. The card's website line reads getbesthost.com/eduvisa: sign in there with your client ID to track your processing status, see all your documents in one place and view every payment you have made.
How can you check progress and verify payments?
Our verified client portal at getbesthost.com/eduvisa shows how far your work has progressed, step by step, and lets you confirm that each payment was received and recorded. You always know where your file stands without having to call and ask — and you can show family members exactly what has been paid and why.
Nepal rarely needs paperwork help, which is exactly why it is a good first trip: a clean entry and return stamp starts building the travel history that later UK, Schengen or study visa files benefit from. We can help you plan that sequence honestly.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Nepal visa really free for Bangladeshis?
Yes — free for up to 30 days on the first visit in a visa year under the SAARC gratis rule published by Nepal's Department of Immigration. A second visit that year is charged at US$30/50/125 for 15/30/90 days.
Do I need a visa before flying from Dhaka?
No. Bangladeshis get the visa on arrival at Kathmandu, Pokhara or Gautam Buddha airport and at land entry points.
How much money should I carry?
For a 5-day budget trip, about US$150–300 for the ground costs plus a reserve, endorsed on your passport, is a sensible rough plan.
Can I go overland via India?
Overland entry needs an Indian visa for transit, so most Bangladeshi budget travellers find the direct flight simpler and similar in total cost.
Does a Nepal trip help future visa applications?
A clean trip with on-time return adds genuine travel history, which UK and Schengen officers look at as part of your overall profile.
