Bangladesh is not on Thailand's visa-exemption list, so you need a visa. Apply for a Tourist Visa (TR) before you fly and you get a 60-day stay; take Visa on Arrival instead and you get 15 days. The Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka requires proof of at least 20,000 Baht per person or 60,000 Taka per person — and the Taka option is the cheaper of the two. Everyone must also file a free Thailand Digital Arrival Card before landing.
Which route is yours — e-Visa or Visa on Arrival?
Most guides list twenty Thai visa categories. A Bangladeshi tourist only ever chooses between two, so here they are side by side.
- 60 days of stay, extendable once for 30 more at an Immigration office
- Applied for online through Thailand's official e-Visa system
- Full document set required, including funds and an employer letter
- You know the answer before you buy a non-refundable ticket
- 15 days only, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand publishes a fee of 2,000 Baht
- Available to nationals of 31 countries and territories
- Granted at the counter — a refusal happens after you have already flown
- Sensible only for a short, fixed trip you cannot plan ahead
Visa on Arrival is not a shortcut, it is a risk transfer. With a TR visa the decision is made while you are still in Bangladesh and your ticket money is still safe. With Visa on Arrival the decision is made after you land, by an officer who has never seen your file. For four times the permitted stay, the paperwork is worth it.
What does each route actually cost and allow?
| Item | e-Visa (TR) | On Arrival |
|---|---|---|
| Stay | 60 days | 15 days |
| Extension | +30 days | Limited |
| Fee | Not published | 2,000 Baht |
| Fee in Taka | Not published | ≈৳7,361 |
| Decided | Before flying | After landing |
| Funds proof | ৳60,000 / person | Required |
| Arrival card | TDAC, free | TDAC, free |
On the TR fee, we would rather say nothing than guess. The Royal Thai Embassy Dhaka's own Tourist Visa page lists the documents but does not publish a visa fee, a processing time or a validity period. Agencies quoting you a precise "embassy fee" are quoting their own package. The fee is shown to you inside the official e-Visa application. Baht conversions here use 1 Baht = ৳3.6807 on 28 September 2026 and are our arithmetic.
How much money must you show?
This is the requirement that decides most files, and the embassy states it precisely: at least 20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family, OR 60,000 Taka per person and 120,000 Taka per family. It also specifies that it will accept original bank statements and solvency letters only.
The embassy gives you a choice of currency, and the two thresholds are not equivalent. At 28 September 2026 rates, 20,000 Baht is about ৳73,613, while the Taka threshold is a flat ৳60,000 — roughly ৳13,600 less to demonstrate per person. If your statement is in Taka, you are being measured against the lower bar. Read the requirement as written before you move money around.
What documents does the embassy ask for?
This is the full published list for a Tourist Visa TR. Screenshot it — it is the part people forget in pieces.
- Application form, filled out and signed by the applicant
- Passport valid at least 6 months with at least 2 blank pages for the sticker and stamps
- Copies of the passport info page, any recent Thai visa page and renewal page
- Two colour photos, 3.5 × 4.5 cm, white background, taken within the past 6 months
- Financial proof — original bank statement and solvency letter only
- A copy of a round-trip air ticket or booking confirmation
- A visa request letter from you, plus an employer recommendation showing your salary
- Professional proof: BMDC certificate for doctors, Bar Council certificate for lawyers, enrolment proof for students
- Proof of relationship where a family applies together
- Marriage certificate — with a notarised English translation if it is in Bangla
- Trade licence for business owners, with notarised translation and photocopy
- Parental consent for applicants under 18

What is the TDAC, and why do people get caught by it?
Because it is new, free, and nothing about your visa reminds you to do it. Since 1 May 2025, every non-Thai national entering Thailand by air, land or sea must submit a Thailand Digital Arrival Card online before arrival, at tdac.immigration.go.th. It replaces the old paper arrival card.
That is the official guidance — not three weeks, and not at the airport. A valid visa does not exempt you, and the TDAC is not something a travel agent automatically does for you. It costs nothing, which is exactly why anyone charging you a "TDAC fee" is charging you for a free government form.
What does the process look like, start to finish?
Why are Bangladeshi tourist applications refused?
Rarely for one dramatic reason. Almost always for one of these, and every one of them is avoidable.
- Funds that appear suddenly. A balance deposited days before applying invites the question of whose money it is.
- A photocopied bank statement. The embassy says original statements and solvency letters only.
- Photos in the wrong format. 3.5 × 4.5 cm, white background, taken within 6 months — not an old passport photo.
- A weak tie to Bangladesh. The employer letter is what shows you have a reason to come back.
- Bangla documents with no notarised translation, particularly marriage certificates and trade licences.
- A passport without 2 blank pages, or under 6 months of validity.
What we could not verify, stated plainly. The embassy page does not publish the TR fee, the processing time or the visa validity — so this guide does not quote them. Thailand's Visa on Arrival scheme covers 31 countries and territories at 2,000 Baht for 15 days according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand; we have not been able to confirm Bangladesh's place on that list from a Thai government page, only from secondary sources, so treat the on-arrival route as something to confirm with the embassy before you rely on it. Everything else above is taken from the Royal Thai Embassy Dhaka and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, read on 28 September 2026.
