Who we are

What we collect
- Analytics data: pages viewed, approximate location (country/city level), device and browser type, referrer, and on-page events such as clicks on tools or outbound links. Collected with Google Analytics 4 through Google Tag Manager, only as allowed by your cookie choice.
- Affiliate click data: when you click a partner link (addresses starting with /go/), we record that the click happened (partner, page, link position). The partner may set its own cookie to credit the referral.
- Contact form messages: your name, email address, topic and message, plus IP address and browser string for spam prevention.
- Country lookup: on the homepage, your browser asks our server which country your IP address belongs to, so we can suggest the matching country page. The IP address is used in memory for this lookup only; it is not logged, stored or shared, and only the country code is sent back to your browser.
- Interactive tools: the quiz, calculators, latency test and TTFB checker run in your browser. Your answers are not stored on our server. We may record anonymous events (for example "calculator used") in analytics.

- To keep the site secure and free of spam.
Legal bases (EEA/UK visitors)
Analytics and advertising cookies: your consent, collected through our cookie notice and passed to Google through Consent Mode v2. Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland start with analytics and ad storage set to "denied" until they accept. Contact messages: our legitimate interest in replying to you.

Country detection (IP geolocation)
The homepage calls /geo/country, which looks up the country for your IP address in a database file stored on our own server. No third-party service receives your IP, and we do not store it. The result only changes which country card and suggestion bar you see; you are never redirected, and you can dismiss the bar (the dismissal is remembered in your browser's session storage until you close the tab). If the lookup fails, the page falls back to your browser's time zone, which never leaves your device. IP Geolocation by DB-IP: the free IP to Country Lite database, licensed under CC BY 4.0.
Advertising
If we show Google AdSense ads in future, Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info. This section will be updated before any ad code goes live.
Sharing
We do not sell personal data. Data is processed by our service providers: Google (Analytics, Tag Manager), our web host, and affiliate partners or networks only in the form of the referral they receive when you click a partner link.
Retention
Analytics data: kept for the GA4 retention period we configure (14 months). Contact messages: up to 24 months, or deleted sooner on request.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, or object to its processing, by emailing team@getbesthost.com. EEA/UK residents can also complain to their local data protection authority.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
